Throwback Track of the Day (x2) – Taana Gardner’s “Heartbeat” & The Treacherous Three’s “Feel the Heartbeat” (1981)

Ladies and gentlemen – I bring you the “two-fer” and then some more…
I’ll apologize right now if I conjured up any memories of Ini Kamoze’s “Here Comes the Hot Stepper” as that was not my intention. Besides, if I wanted to have been mean then I would have posted a song sampled by Shabba Ranks or someone similar.
Taana Gardner’s one and only biggest hit has fortunately been sampled by better artists than Ini and used for better songs as well. Case in point – The Treacherous Three – who wasted little time and used her beat the very same year it came out for their single “Feel the Heartbeat.

Added FYI - So beyond the two songs above being related – having the same beat/bass line to them – they also meld together in two different ways with De La Soul. OK, here’s where my dorkdom shines! De La Soul not only samples the beat for their 1989 song Buddy but they also use the lyrics from the T3 track on their 1991 single “What Yo Life Can Truly Be” (featured on the maxi single for A Roller Skating Jam Called Saturdays”).
